The vibrant city of Dublin played host to a groundbreaking event from August 19-21, 2024, as the HEPA Europe and I-PARC conference brought together leaders, researchers, and policymakers from across the globe. The Irish Physical Activity Research Collaboration (I-PARC) session was a highlight of this prestigious gathering, focusing on advancing strategies to integrate physical activity into public health policies and practices. Mr. Colm Burke, T.D. Minster of State with special responsibility for Public Health, Wellbeing and the National Drugs Strategy opened the event, commending I-PARC on the important work they do to promote physical activity.

The I-PARC session was a focal point of the conference, attracting over 120 participants, including 29 international attendees from 16 countries. The diverse representation underscored the global commitment to enhancing physical activity and its role in public health.

The session, held on August 21, featured a robust agenda, including five insightful oral presentations, a panel discussion, and a highly engaging workshop. Keynote speakers shared innovative research and best practices, setting the stage for dynamic discussions and collaborative problem-solving.

Engaging Content and Interactive Discussions

The conference was not just a series of presentations but a platform for meaningful exchange. The interactive elements, including Q&A sessions and breakout discussions, allowed participants to delve deeper into the topics and explore practical solutions.

One of the standout aspects was the workshop on policy implementation strategies, which provided a hands-on approach to tackling the challenges of integrating physical activity into various sectors. With more than 100 participants actively engaging in group activities, it was evident that the session sparked innovative ideas and strategies.

Insights and Impact

Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive. Many participants appreciated the blend of theoretical insights and practical case studies, which highlighted successful initiatives and provided actionable takeaways.

The session’s focus on cross-sector collaboration emerged as a key theme. Discussions emphasized the importance of partnerships between health, education, urban planning, and transportation sectors to create environments that promote physical activity.

Plans are already in motion for follow-up webinars and meetings to continue the conversation and build on the momentum generated during the conference.
